Return of the Living Dead is also known to us as Damn, the zombies are coming. The horror film, published in 1984, is based on the novel of the same name by John A. Russo, Who also wrote the legendary film Night of the Living Dead. Director Dan O’Bannon had a huge success back in 1979 when he wrote the screenplay for Alien.
So it’s no wonder that this zombie slaughter also gained cult status and recently all three parts have been released in a new home theater version. Return of the Living Dead is even available in a limited Futurpak (999 pieces).

Return of the Living Dead was indexed for a full 27 years until it received an FSK from 16 years in 2011. The second part, The Return of the Infernal Zombies, was only released in censored form in cinemas and on VHS. In 2004 the sequel was re-examined and has carried the FSK-18 seal ever since. Part 3 even had to be cut by 13 minutes in order to even get an FSK 18 rating and then it took again 25 years until it was removed from the index. The film has been available in full length since 2019 and is now even rated 16.
The limited edition of Return of the Living Dead was released in late summer and the no less well-known ones followed in October Parts 2 and 3 in the media book on Blu-ray. The edition also offers good bonus material with audio commentaries, interviews, featurettes on the make-up effects, a picture gallery and a booklet.
That’s what Return of the Living Dead is all about
The bumbling employees of a medical mail order company, Frank (James Karen) and Freddy (Thom Mathews), burst a military barrel. The emitted poison cloud brings everything dead back to life, including a mummified zombie, which the employees quickly dismantle and burn in the nearby crematorium. The toxic smoke enters the atmosphere and into the ground through the onset of rain. At that time a group of punks are having fun in the cemetery, watching in horror as the dead dig themselves out of the graves and they only want one thing: brains!
The Return of the Living Dead series combines comedy with bloodthirsty FSK-18 horror. The outstanding special effects make the hearts of splatter fans beat faster even after 39 years. In the Blu-ray versions with improved picture and sound, the 80s zombie carnage comes into its own even better.
