It’s time to switch to winter tires, but for some it can be disappointing.

For both gang criminals and petty thieves, winter tires are a hot commodity.

– This is a recurring problem, especially in the autumn. There are a lot of thefts, and quite extensive thefts sometimes, says Marcus Anefur, press spokesperson for the police P4 Östergötland.

There are winter road conditions in several places in Sweden and it is therefore time to get a grip.

The police are now warning of gangs and petty thieves who rip your tires.

– There can be large sums that disappear. Both small, local thieves and gang criminals who wear winter tires, says Marcus Anefur, spokesperson for the police to P4 Östergötland.

Leagues target both individuals and leagues that have larger quantities of decks. It can involve very large sums.

– First, keep the tires locked and maybe even chained. It is also possible to install lighting, says Marcus Anefur, press spokesperson at the police.

Warning for snowfall

In addition, the autumn holidays have started with winter weather in many places in Sweden. During Monday, a heavy snowstorm will move in, and in Värmland it can reach up to 30 centimeters.

– There it is about larger amounts of snow, between one and two decimetres. Locally, it may even be even more, says Linnea Rehn Wittskog, meteorologist at SMHI, to TT.

SMHI had issued an orange warning for heavy snowfall in the area. It can be very difficult to get to the roads, and there is also a high risk of power outages with public transport.

– Feel free to leave your car at home, especially if the winter tires are not on, says Lars-Johan Sahlin, safety coordinator at the Rescue Service Karlstad region, to NWT.
