Six people were killed and 40 injured when two passenger trains collided in southern India on Sunday, officials said.

The collision occurred when a train ran into another, stationary train. Many rescue workers and local residents at the scene took out injured passengers from the trains.

Safety on railway tracks has improved in India in recent years following investments in infrastructure and technology, but train accidents are still common in the country.

In June, more than 280 people lost their lives in one of the worst railway accidents in the country’s history.
