In an almost utopian world, 12-year-old Saki Watanabe’s psychic abilities awaken. Therefore, she is sent to a special academy that takes care of and trains children with such powers. There is also the rumor of the “tainted cats” that come at night and kidnap children.
Little by little the utopia crumbles and the more secrets and intrigues are revealed, the more the children understand what kind of world they actually grew up in.
What makes From the New World worth watching? Despite the many genres, the series never manages to seem overloaded. The whole story is divided into two large sections that take place at different times. What begins as a comparatively harmonious story with a lot of time for character depth later turns into a brutal and cruel trip that disturbingly shows how quickly a society can go out of control – and that death does not stop at the main characters.
