These banners, which feature men and women from Woodstock who served in the military during past wars, have now been installed on light poles throughout the city’s downtown.

The city’s parks and recreation department worked with volunteers from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55 and the Woodstock Navy Club to collect the names and photos used on the banners.

“We are proud to pay tribute to these individuals from our community who demonstrated incredible courage and sacrifice in serving our country,” special events manager Kristen Brodhagen said in a release. “This project showcases the rich history of our city and was made possible thanks to members of the public who generously shared photos of their loved ones.”

The banners will remain on display in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign, which begins Oct. 27 and runs to Nov. 11.

The city’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony takes place at the Victoria Park cenotaph on Nov. 11, beginning at 10:35 am

This year’s ceremony will again feature a Canadian Harvard aircraft flyover through the efforts of the Oxford County-based Canadian Harvard Association and the sponsorship of the Miller family. The full schedule of the ceremony can be found online at www.cityofwoodstock.ca/remembranceday.
