Leo Carlsson’s huge success in the NHL continues.
The Swedish draft number two accounted for two new points last night – against Boston itself.
The super talent broke the Bruins’ super streak all by himself.
The hockey world was really surprised this summer during the NHL draft. Connor Bedard, one of the most hyped players ever in the NHL, was incredibly expected to be chosen first by the Chicago Blackhawks, but on almost all lists and rankings ahead of him, Adam Fantilli was second. But when the Anaheim Ducks stepped on stage, Leo Carlsson’s name was called out instead.
Huge success for Leo
The Swede had an absolutely incomparable last year with Örebro in the SHL, and this spring became the youngest WC player with Tre Kronor ever. And it is admittedly early in his career, but Leo Carlsson has already shown that the Anaheim Ducks did the right thing by investing in him. However, Carlsson has had some issues with injuries, and tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins was only his third.
Carlsson scored right away in his debut, but left his second match, against the Arizona Coyotes, scoreless. Last night, the Boston Bruins themselves, who started the season very strongly, were waiting. They had won all six games before tonight’s meeting against Anaheim – but the super streak would be broken. And a lot thanks to Leo Carlsson in particular. The Bruins led the game 3-1 with just two minutes remaining, but Leo Carlsson changed that as he swept in a rebound from Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark to make it 2-3.
Broke the super suite
The goal was his second in his NHL career, and with just fifteen seconds left in the game, the equalizer also came. Leo Carlsson was in front of the goal and messed up, but it was Troy Terry who scored the goal that took the game to extra time. And there, Leo Carlsson showed once again what tremendous potential he possesses. Taking the puck on his own, Carlsson fed Mason McTavish a brilliant pass, and his goal meant the Boston Bruins’ streak was finally broken.
Leo Carlsson was noted for two points – a goal and a first assist for the match-winning goal – and in three games played, the successful rookie now has three points. After a few games’ absence, the Swede also got close to 23 minutes of ice time, and great confidence in the Ducks’ offense. There have been question marks surrounding Carlsson’s status, or whether it’s simply that the Ducks have rested him in the season opener so as not to burn him out too early. But after the new huge success, everything indicates that the Ducks can’t keep him out of games anymore.
