The greatest player in Europe gets his own “super” team, fails completely – works now

The Croatian Luka “Perkz” Perković is considered the most successful League of Legends player Europe has ever produced. From 2015 to 2020 he dominated the European league LEC with G2 and was close to becoming world champion in 2019. Afterwards he was supposed to build Team Vitality into a super team in France. That failed disastrously in the last two years. Now he is reportedly leaving the team at the age of 25.

What makes Perkz so successful?

  • The Croatian had a strong run at G2 from 2015 to 2020: He won the league 8 times, was elected to the All-Pro team 4 times and was considered the boss and head of the team.
  • Perkz was so ambitious and determined to win a Worlds title that he even switched positions, moving from the middle to the botlane to make room for Europe’s second world class player, Caps: Together we were In 2019, just one series away from breaking Asia’s dominance and bringing the world title to Europe.
  • In 2020, Perkz gave up this dream and went to the USA for a year, where he also won a title and was elected to the All-Pro team.
  • That would be Perkz’s dream, to win the Worlds one day – in 2019 he was close:

“Super team” in France would dominate Europe for years

That was the plan: After his stint in the US, Perkz had the opportunity to build a “super team” in France with Team Vitality from 2022.

The team owners bought Perkz from the USA for a reported €2.5 million and wanted to provide him with elite players so that they could create a super team and compete for the World Cup. For example, top laner Alphari was brought back from the USA.

Expectations were high – the team showed in a video how they would destroy all other European teams.

Super team remains super unsuccessful, came last

This is how it worked in reality: Really bad. In 2022 the project started terribly when they lost 3 games in a row.

Team Vitality never rose above average and consistently fell short of expectations. Although Perkz repeatedly brought in top-class European players who had shone with other teams or signed highly talented players from Asia, Team Vitality failed season after season, often narrowly qualifying for the playoffs and then being eliminated early on.

Every season it seemed like the team took a long time to get into shape, then seemed reasonably stable, only to collapse once the playoffs began.

The latest edition of the super team had Upset and Kaiser, two established German star players who were successful in the past, but this team also flopped, even harder than in 2022: in the Summer Split of the LEC 2023, Team Vitality came last, winning only 1 of 9 games.

Perkz is apparently leaving Team Vitality before 2024

This is the latest news: According to a report from the website BLIX, Team Vitality has separated from Perkz after 2 years. Academy player Daglas was promoted to the main squad. Perkz can now look for a new team, they say.

Is that true? It all looks like it. Perkz posted a cryptic emoji tweet on Twitter on October 23rd. This is commonly read as “He goes.” Fans thank him and say goodbye to him.

Speculation begins as to exactly where he will end up and who he will play with.

Perkz’s career is now being maliciously commented on on Reddit. Commenting on the departure, one user wrote: “So Perkz did nothing and grabbed $4 million. It was worth it, I guess.”
