Tampa Bay’s step-in Swedish goalkeeper Jonas Johansson made 32 saves as Tampa Bay defeated Carolina 3-0 on Wednesday night.
– Sometimes you get lucky and get zeroes, said the Swede modestly after the match.
Tampa Bay’s first goalie Andrey Vasilevsky is convalescing after back surgery. It has given Swedish Jonas Johansson the chance to guard during the opening of the season.
And Johansson has already taken the chance to show his capacity between the posts from the opening match. In the team’s seventh game, Johansson managed to keep the opponents clean for the first time this season.
Second NHL shutout
After the match, the Swede was humble and said that it was all about luck and mostly a team effort.
– Sometimes you get lucky and get zeroes. I think everyone played a really good game tonight. We played hard and tough as a team against a good opponent. It was a team effort that earned us two points, said Jonas Johansson.
It was the second time in his NHL career that he went an entire game without conceding a single goal. The last time it happened was on April 9, 2021 when his then team Colorado defeated Anaheim 2–0.
Forsberg replaced
However, the night’s round was not the same success for all Swedish goalkeepers. Ottawa’s Anton Forsberg was replaced after the second period of the meeting against Buffalo after allowing five goals on 18 shots. The match ended 6–4 to Buffalo.

Ottawa coach DJ Smith said after the game that he had expected more from Forsberg, but at the same time did not want to put the blame for the loss on the goalkeeper.
– I thought it was a strange match. I mean, every chance they had in the beginning went in, Smith said.
In Vancouver’s 3–2 win over Nashville, the former Rögle forward scored Nils Höglander his second goal of the season when he made it 3-1 for his Vancouver.
