Israel has shelled targets in Syria

It was during Tuesday that Israel identified two rockets from Syria and the Israel Defense Forces, the IDF, responded directly by shelling the place the rockets were fired from. During Wednesday morning, Israel attacked military targets in Syria.

“IDF warplanes struck military infrastructure and mortars belonging to the Syrian army in response to the shelling of Israel yesterday (Tuesday),” the IDF said in a statement.

TV4 News’ Middle East correspondent Terese Cristiansson explains why Israel chooses to shell targets in Syria.

– Lebanon and Hezbollah have perhaps been talked about the most so far, but the border with Syria is also often very tense now also because of the war. It is above all to knock out the Iranian proxy militias that are inside Syrian soil, she says.

Concern that the war will grow

Now the concern is growing worldwide that the war will spread. This is not the first time Israel has attacked Syria.

– Israel has previously attacked, among other things, the airport in both Aleppo and Damascus. Now last night they attacked another target inside Syria to destroy military infrastructure, says Terese Cristiansson.

Since October 7, when the terrorist group Hamas went on the attack, Israel has shelled, in addition to Gaza and Syria, also Lebanon and the West Bank.

Bloody Hamas attack

Dramatic images and unique testimonies tell the story of the bloody massacre in which Hamas killed 260 people at a rave festival in Israel.
