Certain mixed first names are more common among girls than among boys. But sometimes the trend reverses. This goddess name, from Greek mythology, should be very popular with little boys in 2024.

Mixed first names are one of the major trends for 2024. With a particularity which is confirmed over the years: first names which until then were more attributed to little boys, like Camille or Charlie, change gender. “Charlie is seeing a fairly marked rebound and continues to progress in the national female top 20” explains Claire Tabarly Perrin, co-author of L’Officiel des Prénoms. And conversely, certain mixed first names rather given to girls tend to become more masculine. This is particularly the case for a rather feminine first name since it refers to a goddess in Greek mythology.

According to Pamela Redmond, first name specialist and creator of the Nameberry site, the first name Artemis could well become the trend for tomorrow’s male first names. In Greek mythology, Artemis is the goddess of hunting, nature, animals and the moon. The daughter of Zeus and Leto, also sister of Apollo, has therefore inspired many names for girls since it can also be written in different ways: Artémise or even Arthémise. Thus, this initially feminine first name, which has become mixed, should be worn more and more by little boys. The specialist nevertheless notes that the first name Artemis was historically spelled in a masculine version: Artemas.

Very often, first names become trendy through well-known series or science fiction characters. For the first name Artemis, most of the characters who bear this goddess first name are feminine: we find it in the universe of DC and Marvel comics with Artemis of Bana-Mighdall or Artemis Crock. A male first name still appears in the Artemis Fowl series of novels by Eoin Colfer, worn by a 12-year-old boy, who is none other than the main character. It is therefore a safe bet that the first name Artemis, like many other first names from Greek mythology, will be one of the trendy first names of 2024.
