Dunkirk was twenty years in development
Twenty years ago, Christopher Nolan was made aware of the dramatic war events in Dunkirk, as Page Six reported. A personal boating experience with his wife and producer of the film Emma Thomas also inspired him to make the film, in which she were exposed to wind and cold for 19 hours. He developed great respect for the soldiers who were exposed to the sea under harsh wartime conditions.
What would it really have been like to get on a boat and make a crossing like that, but not on vacation like we were […] – that stuck with both of us over the years.

The war epic cost a whopping $150,000 million. In addition to the strong action scenes, the actors’ fees also probably contributed quite a bit to the costs. Because Dunkirk features a real star ensemble with Tom Hardy, Harry Styles, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy and Kenneth Branagh.
Dunkirk is about this true story
In May 1940, Hitler’s armed forces unexpectedly invaded the Benelux countries and forced the Allied soldiers to retreat. 400,000 British, French, Belgian and Dutch are trapped between the enemy troops and the sea. Near the coastal town of Dunkirk in northern France, they have to hold out and hope for rescue. An undertaking that the commanders no longer believe in.
Nolan stages the true story in an exciting way and in different time periods with different characters. We explain the exact storylines here.
Christopher Nolan can tell his films with powerful images (Inception), action-packed (Batman trilogy) and with a sophisticated plot (Memento). All of this can be found in Dunkirk.
