US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that additional support will be provided to further strengthen US forces in the Middle East.
In his statement on the subject, Austin stated that “the activities of Iran and its proxy forces in the Middle East have increased” and therefore additional support will be provided to strengthen US forces in the region.
Stating that the support in question will “strengthen regional deterrence efforts, increase the security of US forces in the region and help the defense of Israel”, Austin said that the US aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower group will add additional power to the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier group currently in the Eastern Mediterranean. He stated that he was directed to the region.
Austin also noted that additional forces will be deployed in the region for the security of US troops and a Regional High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) system battery will be sent.
