Roman Eremenko admits to MTV that he was addicted to cocaine

Roman Eremenko returns to the Olympic Stadium after eight years

Seven years ago, Roman Eremenko was in top shape. However, his career got stuck in the cocaine cart.

A football player Roman Eremenko admits to MTV of being addicted to cocaine. The talented player’s career came to a screeching halt in the fall of 2016, when his test sample revealed the use of drugs after the Champions League match he played for CSKA Moscow.

– You can say that. That’s what happened. Surprisingly. As things sometimes happen in life. That’s what happened to me, Eremenko admits.

Eremenko received a two-year ban from UEFA.

– Two years away – that’s a big bump. At the time, I was in top shape and in the mood to play at the age of 29. You can guess what would have happened. I still had that season left on my contract with CSKA. That season was off to a great start. What would have happened after that? You never know, Eremenko tells MTV.

Eremenko describes that he paid a heavy price for his cart. Cocaine addiction, suspension and career collapse were a tough time for the player and his close circle.

– I lost a lot football-wise and of course financially. It was probably just as hard on the family and wife, if not even harder, than it was on me. I don’t complain and I don’t cry about it. It was my mistake and I paid the price. It was nobody’s fault but mine.

Eremenko, 36, has played in the domestic league in Honga this season. He tells MTV that things are good in life now. He hopes to continue his career for another two or three years, possibly even abroad.
