Khamzat Chimaev won his biggest match of his career so far on Saturday. The 29-year-old, who previously represented Sweden but now chose to compete for the United Arab Emirates, was superior against seasoned opponent Kamaru Usman.
After a unanimous decision from the judges, he turned to the audience – and spoke directly to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was in Abu Dhabi.
Chimaev thanked Ibrahimovic who has expressed his support for him in the past. Last summer, they were photographed together during a training session in Stockholm.
The victory means that Chimaev has won all 13 pro matches in his career. Next, he is expected to have a title match against middleweight champion Sean Strickland.
