It was on Tuesday that the Security Police arrested the couple in a dawn raid. The man is a high-ranking officer and now works with defense issues at another authority. The woman works at the Defense Radio Institute. The woman disputes the detention requests and the man denies any wrongdoing.
– He denies it, and very firmly. We do not share the decision and believe that there are grounds to appeal and have it reviewed by the Court of Appeal, says defense lawyer Thomas Olsson to SVT Nyheter after the hearing.

Tony Ingesson, assistant university lecturer in intelligence analysis at Lund University, says that it is difficult to know what the suspicions against the couple are about.
– But it sounds like they handled secret information in ways you absolutely shouldn’t.
Ingesson explains that the difference between an unauthorized position with a secret task and espionage is that in the first crime the aim was not to hand over the information to a foreign power.
– Sometimes it is classified as this initially when there is insufficient evidence for espionage, sometimes the criminal classification is changed later and becomes espionage instead.
