The passengers on board the Stena Danica had to swing around four extra hours at sea on the way from Gothenburg to Fredrikshamn, due to the storm Babet.
The wind caused a large ship to tear in Fredrikshamn and stopped the ferry from docking and another from putting out.
– It’s a bit shaky for them, says Julia Branting, who is responsible for press contacts at Stena Line, to TT at half past two on Saturday night about the situation for the passengers on Danica.
But then the ferry had been given the go-ahead to enter the port and another of the company’s ferries, Stena Jutlandica, the go-ahead to prepare departure from Fredrikhamn to Gothenburg.
The problems, which Göteborgs-Posten was the first to report on, began on Friday evening when a 332-meter-long ship broke free from its moorings in Fredrikshamn.
This meant that the Stena Jutlandica, for safety reasons, could not depart as planned from the port and was later estimated to depart with a delay of approximately six hours.
But it became most tangible for the 583 passengers on the Stena Danica on the way from Gothenburg who could not dock, waiting for the ship that had worn out to be secured. The ferry had to wait on the sea outside.
