Inglourious Basterds revolves around a motley crew of fighters under the command of US officer Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) who kill Nazi German soldiers and high-ranking Nazi Party leaders behind enemy lines. Their big coup is an attack on Adolf Hitler (Martin Wuttke).

While the film was celebrated by many critics (via Metacritic ), others found Tarantino’s revenge fantasy to be a tasteless distortion of the Holocaust. The New Yorker, for example, described the film as “ridiculous and shockingly insensitive“.

According to the Village Voice the film enables Jews, “to behave like Nazis“ and thus force a “almost psychotic break with reality“. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether the critical voices are right with this assessment.
