The Gaza Strip has been under siege from air, land and sea for days. The USA sent aircraft carriers to the region to support Israel. The news that shook the hopes for peace came last night. Israel once again drenched the region in blood and turned the hospital where civilians were struggling to survive into a cemetery. Following the incident, Israeli officials claimed, “We didn’t do it, Hamas did it.” However, Israel’s claims were overshadowed by the scandalous statement of Army Spokesperson Hagari. The photo of the baby holding bread in his hand quickly became the symbol of the massacre.
IT’S LIKE A CEMETERY! PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE MASSACRE POINT
The bombing of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital killed more than 500 people. Gaza officials held a press conference among the corpses in the hospital bombed by Israel. According to AA, Yusuf Abu al-Rish, Deputy Minister of Health of Palestine in Gaza, said at the press conference that this attack was not Israel’s first attack on Al-Ahli hospital.
Stating that Israeli forces carried out two attacks on the hospital on October 14, Abu al-Rish showed photos of these attacks. Abu al-Rish said that after the first attack, Israeli forces contacted hospital director Mahir Ayyad and said, “You were warned by two bombs yesterday, why hasn’t the hospital been evacuated until now?” he said. Announcing that the hospital management contacted Christian clergy in England following the threats, Abu er-Riş stated that they received a message of assurance from international institutions for the operation of the hospital. “The only place in the world where people are warned by bombs is the Gaza Strip.” Abu er-Rish said, pointing out that Israel targeted hospitals and no precautions were taken against it. Abu al-Rish called on the countries of the world to stop Israel from targeting civilians.
In the video from the press conference, medical personnel are seen standing among the covered corpses, while two people sitting on the ground are holding the bodies of a baby and a girl in their arms.
Gassan Ebu Sitte, a doctor working for Doctors Without Borders, also noted that they were startled by a loud explosion while they were performing a surgical operation at the hospital. Abu Sitte stated that the ceiling collapsed in the operating room and said, “This is a massacre.” he said.
IMPRESSIVE WORDS! “THERE WAS NO DIRECT HIT”
After the attack that shocked the world, all eyes turned to the statements to be made by Israel. Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Palestinian organizations and said, “We did not carry out the attack.” Meanwhile, Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari made an incredible defense, saying, “We bombed the garage of the hospital, but there was no direct hit on the hospital.”
HEART-HURTING SHOTS FROM THE HOSPITAL
While controversial statements were coming from Israel, heartbreaking images from the bombed hospital were on the agenda. The photo of the baby holding bread in his hand became one of the most talked about frames symbolizing the massacre. When the day dawned, shots came that revealed the extent of the horror.
