The 28-year-old Groenewegen, who booked two stage victories in the Tour of Saudi Arabia last month, was unable to participate in the battle for the stage victories in the first stages of Paris-Nice. Countryman Fabio Jakobsen won the second stage in Orléans on Monday. Groenewegen was missing in the bunch sprint after a fall earlier in the stage.
