29 SM golds together. Tonight, Brynäs and Djurgården met for the first time ever in the hockey Allsvenskan. A classic meeting that turned into a swinging story that Brynäs finally took home with 7-4. This after five (!) straight goals in the third period.
With the score 4-4, the shooting king Jack Kopacka, 25, stepped into the proceedings. The American forward, who was recruited from Kristianstad before the season, pushed in the lead goal at the end of the game. It was the 25-year-old’s seventh goal of the season.
– We believed in each other and believed that we would come back. That’s exactly what happened. We are certainly not a soft team, he says in TV4’s broadcast after the match.
Notable is that he is already almost catching up with last year’s goal tally of eight.
“Then you will be punished”
However, Djurgården looked for a long time to be able to take all three points home to Stockholm. In the middle act, the guests went up to a 4-2 lead after, among others, Anton Gradin scored his first goal in the Djurgården jersey. But after five straight Brynäs goals in the third, another loss was conceded for Djurgården.
After the match, coach Johan Garpenlöv was critical of the effort in the last period.
– We put ourselves in bad situations and Brynäs is a skilled team. If you give the puck away in the wrong positions and don’t play hard, you will be punished, he says in TV4’s broadcast.
With the victory, Brynäs is at the top. For Djurgården, things continue to be difficult. After eight rounds played, the club has only scored ten points.
