BRUSSELS. He was often out walking, and always wore the same clothes.

This is how a neighbor describes the terrorist Abdesalam Lassoued.

– I saw him very often, she says.

A yellow apartment building with about 20 apartments. A neighbor points up to the apartment that was the home of the Brussels terrorist.

– The police were here all morning, she says.

It was when she was going to pick up the newspaper on Tuesday morning that she was met by a huge police force out on the street. The police had then raided her neighbour’s home.

But Abdesalam Lassoued was not at home.

Instead, a witness saw him in a cafe a few streets away in the same neighborhood.

The person contacted the police, which ended with the terrorist being shot dead.

“What he has done is terrible”

The neighbor says she didn’t know him very well. They only said hello sometimes. On the other hand, she often saw him walking in the neighborhood – usually dressed in the same clothes, she says.

– He had a white hat and a long shirt.

Another neighbor, who lived in the same stairwell as Abdesalam Lassoued, comes out of the gate with his dog. He is noticeably taken by what happened.

– I have never seen so many police and media here before, he says.

Both were shocked to learn what their neighbor had done.

– It is a quiet area. I have lived here for 60 years and have enjoyed it very much. I never thought this would happen here, says the woman.

– What he has done is terrible.

Abdesalam Lassoued had stayed illegally in Belgium, and is said to have lived in the apartment together with his partner and daughter.
