Since Hamas’ attack on Israel, social media platforms, not least Elon Musk-owned X, have been described as places “drowning in disinformation”. SVT Nyheter has previously taken a closer look at a number of commonly occurring false claims.
From the Russian side, a number of accounts, ranging from small anonymous ones on Telegram, to large official ones belonging to Russia’s ex-president Dimitri Medvedev, have spoken out and accused Ukraine of having sold NATO weapons on to Hamas.
A particularly viral video clip shows what are claimed to be Ukrainian weapons, while a voice in Arabic in the background says thank you and says they are to be used “in the fight against the enemy”.
“Hamas has visited several times”
What is the truth behind the weapons cliff, and what is the relationship of Ukraine and Russia with Hamas?
– Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has distanced himself from Hamas’s actions, while, for example, leaders of Hamas have visited Moscow several times this year, and Russia is allied, at least partially, with Hamas and Iran, says SVT’s former Russia correspondent Bert Sundström.
In the video above, we show the gun clips that are spread on social media, and then Bert Sundström goes through what the truth behind them is.
