19-year-old flies 6,500 kilometers for a $4 million tournament – Epic throws him out before the start and deports him

Fortnite professional Bucke had a really bad Friday the 13th. He flew 6,500 kilometers from Detroit to take part in a big tournament at Fortnite in Copenhagen, but was disqualified before the start of the “2023 FNCS Global Championship” tournament get out of Denmark and fly back to the USA. He “messed up,” he said afterwards.

What kind of tournament was that?

  • The 2023 FNCS Global Championship tournament took place in Copenhagen, Denmark from October 13th to 15th.
  • The tournament is something like the World Championship in Fortnite and is held on site: Most FNCS tournaments take place online.
  • The event was a duo tournament: 50 teams, each with 2 players from all over the world, played against each other. The prize pool was around $4 million.
  • BuckeFPS is a good friend of his here, Fortnite’s figurehead and proud Lambo owner Clix:

Who won the tournament? In the end, first place and prize money of $1 million were shared by Cooper (USA) and Mero (Canada).

The German player “Cheatiin” came in 4th and still received his share of $300,000, which he shared with his duo partner.

These were the shining winners of the tournament.

19-year-old is disqualified before the start of the tournament and put straight on the plane

Who was unlucky? US professional and content creator Logan “Bucke” Eschenburg (19) didn’t have a good day. He’s an established Fortnite pro who has won $247,000 in prize money so far – but most of that money came when he was still a minor. In 2022 and 2023 he had only earned a little more than $7,000 in prize money (via esportsearning).

The 19-year-old lives in Detroit, flew 6,500 kilometers to Copenhagen and had every intention of winning the tournament with his partner Okis. But he was disqualified before it started and Epic Games put him on a plane and sent him home.

He first joked on Twitter that he had been disqualified because he looked too “fast” during the warm-up, but the laughter quickly wore off.

Epic Games had banned him for breaking the rules according to paragraph 8: This paragraph primarily includes violations of the impeccable behavior that is expected and required of a professional.

Professional says: He “messed up” and was therefore banned

Why was he banned? Exactly why he was banned is not entirely clear. The player originally thought he had been disqualified because he had changed the setting on his PC to “digital vibrance”. He communicated this change to a Blast employee and asked to be allowed to reverse the banned setting (via Twitter). But apparently that wasn’t the reason for the disqualification.

Neither Epic Games nor the 19-year-old professional say why he was actually banned.

Some assume he smoked and drank in places where it wasn’t allowed. Others believe he had a fight with an Epic Games employee.

In any case, Bucke had to leave the country immediately and fly back to the USA because he no longer had a valid work visa without taking part in the tournament.

This is what the professional says: He apologizes to everyone on Twitter and says he screwed up. He feels particularly sorry for his partner Okis.

In any case, he does not appear to dispute that the disqualification was correctly pronounced.

He later watched the professionals line up for the tournament in a Twitch stream and felt completely different when his partner Okis came onto the stage alone.

A second team was also disqualified

Did anyone else get hit? Yes, Epic also banned Australian players Jace and Repulse, who qualified for the tournament in Copenhagen.

There is an accusation circulating here that Repulse sold his account to a known cheater: The cheater then went out with Jace and won a tournament.

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: OCE team Jace & Repulse have been disqualified from the FNCS Global Championship. There was major drama on OCE last season because Repulse apparently sold his account to a well-known cheater and then he went on to win FNCS grands while on Repulse’s account. No…

But here too, the reasons for the ban are not officially known: Neither Epic Games nor the disqualified players communicate the reasons. The players deny that they were given a specific reason for the ban.

In any case, Repulse doesn’t seem to agree with his ban at all. He said he felt trolled by Epic Games and didn’t know why he was disqualified.

Some are now calling on Epic Games to clearly state the reasons for the ban.
