Automotive Industry Association, announced the data for the January-September period. A record was broken in terms of production in the first nine months.
The official statement from the institution was as follows: “The Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced the production and export figures and market data for the January-September period of 2023. Accordingly, in the first 9 months of the year, total automotive production increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1 million 74 thousand 155 units. Automobile production increased by 21 percent and reached 687 thousand 817 units. Total production, including tractor production, reached 1 million 117 thousand 620 units. In the first nine months of the year, commercial vehicle production decreased by 1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and in the light commercial vehicle group by 4 percent. In the heavy commercial vehicle group, production increased by 26 percent. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 72 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 72 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 91 percent in the truck group, 51 percent in the bus-midibus group and 76 percent in the tractor.

In the first nine months of the year, automotive exports increased by 7 percent in terms of units compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 733 thousand 956 units. During this period, automobile exports increased by 20 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 11 percent.
Tractor exports increased by 9 percent compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 14 thousand 462 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its top place in the sectoral export rankings with 16 percent in the first nine months of 2023.
According to Uludağ Exporters’ Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first nine months increased by 16 percent compared to the same period of 2022, reaching 26.2 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 14 percent and reached 24.2 billion euros. During this period, main industry exports increased by 19 percent and supply industry exports increased by 11 percent in dollar terms.
In the first nine months of 2023, the total market increased by 63 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 894 thousand 663 units. During this period, the automobile market increased by 67 percent and reached 666 thousand 890 units.
Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the first nine months of the year, 51 percent growth was achieved in the total commercial vehicle market, 28 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market, and 57 percent in the light commercial vehicle market, compared to the same period of the previous year.
“In the January-September period of 2023, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 31 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 48 percent, compared to the same period last year.”
