Iran threatens to intervene in the war between Israel and Hamas if Israel launches a ground offensive in Gaza – a ground invasion is described as a “red line” for Tehran.
At the same time, the United States is now moving another aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean to prevent more countries from being drawn into the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has met with the UN Middle East envoy Tor Wennesland, writes the American news site Axios. In that conversation, Amir-Abdollahian has threatened that Iran will intervene in the war between Hamas and Israel if Israel launches a ground invasion in Gaza.
The conversation is said to have taken place in Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Saturday, writes Axios and refers to diplomatic sources.
Wennesland is said to have tried to talk to Amir-Abdollahian about the war not spreading beyond Gaza and Israel. The Iranian foreign minister is said to have then said that Tehran has its “red lines” and that the country is “forced to respond” if Israel launches a ground invasion in Gaza.
On Saturday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also said that Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist group, could cause “a gigantic earthquake.”
– I know the scenarios Hezbollah has in place. Every step the resistance movement (Hezbollah ed. note) takes will cause a great earthquake for the Zionists, he said, according to Politico.
US sends additional aircraft carriers – to ‘deter every state’
The US is now also moving another aircraft carrier to the eastern Mediterranean to prevent more countries from being drawn into the conflict between Israel and Hamas, this is announced by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
It is the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower that the country is sending to another aircraft carrier group already in place in the region after the Hamas terrorist attack last week.
In a statement, Austin said the expansion signals the United States’ “determination to deter any state or non-state actor that seeks to escalate this war.”
