Ege received a lot of support from unexpected sources during his illness. As a result of the treatment, he lost his hair, and all his friends also went bald: “They wanted to support me and let me know that they were there for me anyway. We’re just doing it for you, man, they said,” the Leerdammer said. He also received numerous cards, largely from strangers: “From a primary school in Gouda to an old lady; all kinds of people I don’t know wish me good luck. That’s all really sweet.”
