Wiping out the Druid Grove counts as immoral, but one player has good reasons

A player in Baldur’s Gate 3 has good RP reasons for his immoral decision to wipe out the Druid Grove. MeinMMO tells you what’s behind it.

Beware, spoilers: The article contains story spoilers about Act 1.

Recently, in Baldur’s Gate 3, a player made an unconventional decision regarding the Druid Grove that questioned his moral principles. The Druid’s Grove Fate Choice is one of the first to be presented to players in the world of Faerûn. However, instead of saving him, this player decided to wipe out the Druid Grove.

This role-playing experiment led him to a surprising conclusion: slaughtering the Druid Grove and the Tieflings actually had its own, if questionable, reasons – not just to recruit Minthara.

Why a player destroyed the Druid Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3

What reasons does the player give? The player named illbebahk explains the reasons for his immoral decision on Reddit. He tries to play his Dark Urge neutrally by making neutral decisions. He was looking for a way to get rid of the annoying parasite. To achieve this goal, he realized that a trip to the Towers of the Moonrise was essential.

After meeting Halsin, he explained to the player that they had to reach the Towers of the Moonrise. Halsin also asks for help in eliminating the goblin leaders – which the player refused.

illbebahk writes:

[…] Unless you know that you are very powerful, there is no way you would agree to murder three leaders and wipe out an entire camp of goblins. And at this point in the story you’re without memories and around level 4, so I tell Halsin that I can’t help but take the path of the Underdark as he recommends.[…]

However, after a few more adventures, including in the Underdark, it turned out that the path to the Towers of the Moonrise was blocked. The Shadow Curse made crossing difficult. The solution was to get a moon lantern.

In desperation, the player waited for Nere, a prisoner with a moon lantern, to die. But when Nere finally died, it turned out that his lantern was broken.

Nere revealed (speaking to the dead) that Minthara could provide safe passage to the Towers of the Moonrise. The player returned to Minthara and learned that she would grant him this favor if he helped her raid the Druid Grove. There is also the option to stay out of the conflict and keep your hands clean.

Regarding his decision to assist Minthara in destroying the Druid Grove, he explains.

Obviously from a gameplay standpoint I have options, but from an RP standpoint I don’t really have a choice but to venture through the Shadowlands myself. So the drow lady [Minthara] should it be.

It’s likely that the majority of players shy away from recruiting Minthara and raiding the Grove for a variety of reasons. If you choose this option, Wyll and Karlach will leave your group. Gale has to be convinced to stay in the group. You also have to kill innocent Tieflings, which means you lose them all.
