The Amanah collaboration between the Islamic Academy in Malmö and the city’s Jewish congregation has been paused after a pro-Palestinian Facebook post from the Islamic Academy, says Amanah’s chairman Lena Posner-Körösi to Dagens Nyheter.
The Islamic Academy writes in the post from last Saturday, published on the same day that Hamas carried out its attack, that “Palestine has been under occupation” since 1948 (when the state of Israel was proclaimed, red note). The academy further writes that ethnic cleansing and apartheid have been going on against the Palestinian population for decades.
“Countless times the sanctities of Islam have been desecrated. As Muslims, we stand with our oppressed brothers and sisters in their right to fight against these injustices and for freedom, justice and peace,” writes the Islamakademin.
Amanah’s chairman Lena Posner-Körösi, who was previously chairman of the Jewish Central Council, is very critical of the post.
– It is a way of showing that you support the other side, including the perpetrators. Otherwise, you don’t post it on that particular day, when Hamas does this, she tells DN.
The Islamic Academy later updated the post with a wording that it regrets “all innocents affected by the violence regardless of who they are” and also pointed out that there is nothing about Hamas in the post from Saturday, the newspaper writes.
