Serhij Zjadan receives the Tucholsky Prize | SVT News

Zjadan is described as “one of the most important and distinctive voices in contemporary Ukrainian literature, who unreservedly portrays the war of aggression his country is facing”.

More of his titles are available in Swedish, including the novel “Internatet” (2023) and the poetry collection “Antennen” (2022). Serhij Zjadan lives in Kharkiv, near the front, and works alongside his writing with humanitarian efforts.

“With Russia’s full-scale invasion, Serhiy Zhadan has become a voice for a free Ukraine. His tireless work shows the important role that literature can play even under the most terrible circumstances,” says Svenska Pen’s chairman Kerstin Almegård in a press release.

The Tucholsky Prize is a freedom of expression prize of SEK 150,000.
