Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz in emergency government in Israel

Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Benny Gantz agreed on an emergency government in Israel.
In a speech, the Prime Minister says that politicians put everything else aside – because “the fate of the nation is at stake”.
– Every member of Hamas is a dead man, he says.

During Wednesday afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Benny Gantz could agree to establish an emergency government and a war cabinet.

Late in the evening, the parties made a joint statement in which they promised to strike back against Hamas, which attacked Israel on Saturday, with full force.

– The people of Israel are united and now the leadership is also united. We put everything else aside because the fate of the nation is at stake. We will work together, side by side, for the citizens of Israel and the State of Israel, the Prime Minister is quoted as saying The Times of Israel.

“We have gone on the attack on all fronts”

At the joint press conference, Netanyahu and Gantz also called Hamas “an enemy worse than IS”. They also stated that the Israeli attacks on Gaza will continue.

– We are fighting with full force. We have gone on the attack on all fronts. Every member of Hamas is a dead man, says Netanyahu.

At least 1,200 Israelis have died since the war began on Saturday. At least 1,200 people have also been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian authorities.

The UN states that almost 340,000 of the roughly two million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip have been forced to flee their homes. Yesterday, the only power plant in Gaza stopped working due to a lack of fuel. Human rights organizations have warned that the situation could develop into a humanitarian disaster.
