Russian artist Piotr Pavlenski sentenced to six months in prison

Nearly four years after the broadcast of sexual videos which led to the downfall of Benjamin Griveaux, Russian artist Piotr Pavlenski was sentenced on Wednesday October 11 to a six-month prison sentence, placed under an electronic bracelet.

He was Emmanuel Macron’s candidate for mayor of Paris. One of the best-known faces in government. Benjamin Griveaux’s campaign exploded in full force. On February 12, 2020, intimate videos of him were published on the internet. Two days later, Benjamin Griveaux threw in the towel. Behind this mysterious site, a Russian artist Pyotr Pavlensky known for his radical performances.

At the origin of these videos, there is an extramarital relationship between Benjamin Griveaux and a student, Alexandra de Taddeo. The politician had denounced vile attacks calling into question his private life. It was Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Health, who replaced him at short notice at the start of the Covid crisis, not enough to save a campaign which would never take off.

Agnès Buzyn will finish in third position with 13% of the votes. Three years after the events, Piotr Pavlenski was sentenced to six months in prison, placed under an electronic bracelet. Benjamin Griveaux has left political life. He returned to the private sector to give advice to businesses.
