Thousands of foreigners have been stranded in Israel and the Palestinian territories since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel on Saturday, which has already left thousands dead. Some countries have started repatriation operations, others plan to do so soon. Here is an inventory.
Argentina
Argentina, where a large Jewish community lives, began operations on Tuesday to repatriate more than 1,200 of its nationals from Israel with the sending of a first military plane to Tel Aviv.
Brazil
The Brazilian government plans to mobilize at least six planes to repatriate its nationals wishing to leave Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Some 14,000 Brazilians reside in Israel and 6,000 live in the Palestinian territories. Some have already left via commercial flights.
Canada
The government plans to organize special flights from Tel Aviv in the coming days with the help of the Canadian military.
South Korea
Departing from Tel Aviv, 192 South Koreans were repatriated aboard a Korean Air plane which landed early Wednesday at Incheon International Airport.
Thirty more South Koreans will be evacuated later this week by regular flights. And 27 others, who were on a pilgrimage to Israel, will reach Jordan by road.
Denmark
The government plans the evacuation “in the coming days” of Danish citizens from Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Around 1,200 Danes are registered in Israel and 90 in the Palestinian territories.
Spain
A Spanish Air Force A330 landed at dawn on Wednesday at a military base near Madrid with on board “more than 200 Spaniards, citizens of the EU and third countries residing in Spain” evacuated from Israel, according to the Spanish Defense Ministry.
Spain took off a second plane Wednesday morning for Israel to bring back other Spaniards.
Finland
Finland will organize the evacuation of its nationals and foreigners residing in Finland.
France
The government announced on Tuesday “the establishment of a special flight by Air France this Thursday as part of an operation coordinated by the crisis center” at the Quai d’Orsay to repatriate French people who have not been able to return .
Iceland
The government announced on Sunday that it would send an airliner to repatriate around 120 of its nationals stranded in Israel.
Nigeria
Nigeria repatriated 310 of its nationals who were in Jordan after leaving Israel by road, where they were on a Christian pilgrimage.
These pilgrims were traveling from Bethlehem to Nazareth when they learned that an attack was underway in southern Israel.
Norway
Norway is organizing a repatriation flight Wednesday evening for its citizens in Israel and the Palestinian territories. There are around 500 registered in Israel and around a hundred in the Palestinian territories.
Portugal
Portugal repatriated 152 of its nationals on Wednesday morning, as well as 14 other European nationals, aboard a TAP Air Portugal flight from Cyprus, where they had been transported by a Portuguese military plane deployed to Israel on Monday.
Sweden
Stockholm implements air evacuation of Swedish citizens from Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Around 3,000 people with ties to Sweden are in Israel and around 800 in the Palestinian territories. The flight departure date is not yet known.
Swiss
A first special plane from the Swiss company repatriated nearly 220 Swiss nationals on Tuesday.
A second special return flight between Zurich and Tel Aviv, with a capacity of 215 seats, is planned for Wednesday at the request of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Around 28,000 Swiss nationals and their families are officially registered in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, where they reside.
