The superhero film has not only been around since the birth of the MCU. Before Tom Holland saved humanity as Spider-Man, his predecessor Tobey Maguire made New York unsafe in three blockbusters. The middle part of his trilogy, Spider-Man 2, is now considered one of the best representatives of the genre ever. Certainly one of the reasons why the producers tell the fans gave an alternative, longer version.

In Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker (Maguire) has to deal with a thousand problems. But when the megalomaniacal Dr. Octavius (Alfred Molina) threatens his hometown, heroic deeds are required.
The 122 minute long theatrical version is considered perfect in the eyes of many fans. Nevertheless the alternative version shows interesting new scenes. In one, sensational journalist J. Jonah Jameson (JK Simmons) puts on the Spidey costume himself.
