Why The Matrix Is a Trans Story According to Lilly Wachowski
Anyone who watches the Matrix films with this knowledge will see the overarching story with different eyes a lot of details discover. For example, Morpheus tells Neo that his whole life he has felt something that cannot be explained – like a splinter in the head that drives you crazy. And the legendary red pill is reminiscent of spironolactone, which helps trans women against the production of male hormones.
The Wachowskis even wanted to have a trans character in the film. Switch was originally supposed to have a male appearance in the real world and a female appearance in the Matrix.
“That’s exactly where our thoughts were back then,” says Lilly Wachwoski, laughing in the video. The production studio Warner Bros. wanted to cast the role with the same actress Belinda Mcclory in both worlds.
