At least two Israeli tourists and an Egyptian have been shot dead in Alexandria, Egypt, according to local media. At least one more person is said to have been injured in the shooting that took place at the tourist attraction Pompeii’s pillars, according to information to a television channel with close ties to the Egyptian security service.

The suspected shooter, described by local media as a police officer, is said to have been arrested.

The Israeli rescue service Zaka also reports two deaths in the attack, which takes place at the same time that Israel is fighting Palestinian militiamen at home.

Egypt made peace with Israel decades ago and has long acted as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, anti-Israel sentiments still exist among the population.
