This is how the police handle threats against Israel in Sweden

Following fears that the ongoing armed conflict between Hamas and Israel may spread, the police in France, Germany and Denmark, among others, have increased surveillance and attention around synagogues and other Israeli interests.

The police in Sweden’s three largest cities – Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö – are more silent about what measures may have been taken during the night to Sunday to prevent attacks against Israeli organizations, buildings or, for example, synagogues.

Not commenting

Peter Asp, who is the officer on duty at the police in Stockholm, says that the police always have an obligation to guard foreign missions.

— It manages in the way that is judged to be needed on a daily basis. How and in what way we guard these objects is nothing that we generally comment on, says Peter Asp to TT and continues:

— We are safe with the surveillance we have of foreign objects in Stockholm and we have the surveillance we think is needed.

Nor does Martin Hallberg, who is the officer on duty at the police in Gothenburg, say that there were no conflict-related incidents, but wants to go into details about what measures may have been taken during the night.

Has supervision

— We have a good collaboration with the Jewish congregation. I don’t want to go into what we do, says Martin Hallberg.

In Malmö, where the synagogue has been vandalized and threatened on several previous occasions, there have also been no reports of any incidents during the night. But according to the officer on duty, surveillance has been increased.

— During the night we have supervision. This basically means that we look at it a little more often than normal, says Thomas Paulsson, officer on duty at police region South.
