The declarations of assets and holdings of the twelve presidential candidates were revealed by the High Authority for the transparency of public life. This is not the first time that heritages have been revealed; the first exercise dates back to 2017.
Each of the twelve candidates had to fill in sections and submit their declarations, certified on their honor, to the Constitutional Council before the evening of March 4. This was one of the conditions, along with those linked to 500 sponsorships, to be able to compete in the first round of the presidential election, which will take place on April 10. What is the point of these asset declarations and do they play a role in the campaign? Answers with Isabelle Veyrat-Masson, research director at the CNRS and specialist in media communication.
