Before 2023, the region had set a negative budget of SEK 326 million. As a result of inflation and increased costs, the deficit has grown and is now estimated to end at SEK 800 million.
“Must produce more”
The deficit must be repaid within a three-year period until 2027. Tommy Svensson cannot answer what cost-saving measures will need to be taken in the future.
– Right now it will not mean anything for healthcare. We have the second challenge related to accessibility and that we have a need to reduce care queues, so we must be able to produce more with the people we have today, he says.
