During Thursday, a military academy in Homs in the western parts of Syria was subjected to a drone attack, writes the AFP news agency and refers to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, SOHR, which is based in London.
Among the victims are both military personnel and civilians.
During the evening, SOHR announced that the death toll after the attack is rising. Over 100 people have been found dead. 14 civilians are among the victims and over 125 people have been injured in the attack.
In state media, the Syrian army has accused “armed terrorist organizations” of being behind the attack. The drone is believed to have been fired from rebel-held areas northwest of Homs.
Pentagon: Shot down Turkish drone
During the day, there have also been reports that an American warplane shot down a Turkish drone over the northern parts of the country, a statement that was confirmed later in the evening by the Pentagon.
The warplane perceived the Turkish drone as a threat to the American forces that are in place in the area during the war against the terrorist organization IS.
– US commanders assessed that the drone was less than half a kilometer from US forces and posed a potential threat, says Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder at a press conference.
The incident comes as Turkey launches attacks against Kurdish forces in the area in response to Sunday’s suicide bombing at the Interior Ministry in Ankara, which the terror-labelled PKK organization claimed responsibility for.
