On Thursday, the US military shot down a Turkish drone in northeastern Syria. This is stated by an anonymous American official for the AP news agency and adds that the reason was that the drone came too close to American soldiers on the ground.

According to the official, the drone flew in an “unsafe” and “unsynchronized” manner.

The incident follows Turkey’s intensified airstrikes against Kurdish targets in Syria and Iraq, following a suicide attack in the Turkish capital Ankara earlier this week.

Around 900 US soldiers are stationed in Syria, taking part in a US-led coalition fighting what remains of the IS terrorist movement.
