In custody incident leads to man being arrested again police

A Chatham-Kent police dog team and drone helped track down one of three suspects charged by provincial police after the theft of a utility trailer in Central Elgin, police say.

Officers responded to the reported theft of an enclosed trailer containing tools and equipment from a Talbot Line business about 6:24 am Tuesday, Elgin OPP said. The trailer was found and two suspects arrested at a Longwoods Road address in Chatham-Kent about an hour later.

OPP alerted Chatham-Kent officers, who learned a third suspect had escaped OPP on foot and was believed to be hiding along the Thames River in the Longwoods and Communication roads area, Chatham-Kent police said.

Police dog Helix and the force’s drone helped find and arrest a suspect, who was hiding in weeds and mudChatham-Kent police said.

The suspect was taken to hospital by paramedics for a pre-existing medical condition, Elgin OPP said.

Two London men, 47 and 50, and a Strathroy man, 36, each face two counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000 and a single count of possessing property obtained by crime valued at less than $5,000, OPP said.

The 47-year-old Londoner also is charged with theft over $5000, and the 50-year-old Londoner also faces two counts of failing to comply with release order, OPP said.

The accused are to appear in court in Chatham Nov. 27.
