William Poromaa’s new training plan is a success.
Much can be thanked for his coach Lars Ljung.
But Wolfgang Pichlers has also had his hand in the game.
The five-mile has become a bit of a favorite distance for William Poromaa. Third in the five miles during the WC in Planica and fifth in Holmenkollen, only 22 years old.
Poromaa’s five-mile success
According to Poromaa, the success in the long distances is thanks to the 22-year-old’s training model. He instituted it three years ago. Instead of having two shorter training sessions in one day, Poromaa runs one longer training session.

They run that system at least twice a week. And they think they see an effect from the new model.
– This allows me to maintain speed for a long time. You could see that in the five miles this year. After all, I’ve been running this concept ever since I was a first-year senior – and now I’m one of the youngest to be on the podium in a five-mile race. So it’s clear, this is probably one reason I managed to do it, says Poromaa to Expressen.
Wolfgang Pichler’s deed
The brain behind the training plan is Poromaa’s trainer Lars Ljung. For the evening newspaper, Ljung tells that several other skiers have started to latch on to this new concept, among other things Edwin Anger.
– The usual thing is that you drive more sessions than William does. But it feels like more and more people are starting to do this now.

But none of this would really have been possible if it weren’t for Wolfgang Pichlerreveals Ljung.
– It was actually Wolfgang who got me into this about wanting to become a coach. He was my inspiration. And he liked this with long, tough, passes. So I got a lot from Wolfgang.
