With the Road-To-The-Knockouts event (RTTK), the first real promo has arrived in EA FC 24 just in time for the official release. The special card upgrades seem pretty intense at first glance; too violent, according to a famous German YouTuber.
What are the strongest cards in the RTTK promo? With Haaland, Osimhen, Bruno Fernandes, Saka and Díaz, there are five players in the first team who cost 600k coins or more. Haaland’s RTTK card even costs around 2.5 million coins with the improved skills (from three to four stars).
The high prices reveal that players have received powerful upgrades and can achieve even higher ratings as dynamic cards. One of Germany’s biggest FIFA streamers, GamerBrother, sees a big problem despite all the joy about the new promo cards.
Watch the video for about a minute to get a first impression of his criticism.
“EA is digging its own grave”: expectations too high
What problem does the YouTuber see? In the video clip you can see how GamerBrother compares the RTKK cards from Openda and Saka. He starts by noting that Openda’s promo card would normally be a strong special card for the FIFA release.
But then he turns to Saka’s event card, which not only has a major upgrade to her stats, but also improved skills and greater precision with the weak foot.
Such massive upgrades immediately upon release would inevitably lead to players having far too high expectations of the upcoming events. In this context, the FIFA streamer states that EA has dug its own grave here.
This was also confirmed by a user in his live stream, who could understand the community’s displeasure if EA released special cards in the following events that could not keep up with the massive upgrades of the RTTK promo.
The fears of the community and the streamer are based on the problems with the power curve in FIFA 23. You can read below what the power curve is exactly and what problematic parallels the streamer and his community see with last year.
We have introduced the entire RTTK team to you in a separate article.
Is EA doing it again? The problems with the power curve
What is the power curve? The power curve can be thought of as an indicator that provides information about the ratings at a certain point in time in EA FC 24.
A successful power curve increases gradually over the year, i.e. the ratings only increase slowly from event to event, so that the strongest cards with the best ratings only appear at the end of the game.
The exception is the Team of the Year promo every year, as the real players with the best annual performances are honored and should therefore also receive the biggest upgrades.

Where are the parallels to FIFA 23? Last year, EA already had problems getting the power curve to grow stably, so in November with the World Cup in Qatar and the associated promos, a flood of very strong players came into play. Many gamers played these high-end cards up to Team of the Season and beyond because they were simply the best cards in the game.
Would you like a short example?
Who doesn’t remember Yaya Toure’s World Cup Hero card, who was one of the best players in the game for a long time because he could do everything.
The same thing now threatens for EA FC 24, at least that’s what Gamerbrother and parts of his community suspect. However, a rapidly increasing power curve does not only have to have disadvantages.
