While the pace of fighting has intensified between the armed groups in the North which signed the 2015 peace agreement and the Malian forces, and the army initiated an imposing movement of troops on Monday towards the stronghold of the rebels in CSP (Permanent Strategic Framework) in Kidal, jihadist groups are taking advantage of the situation to step up their action. The Support Group for Islam and Muslims, linked to al-Gaeda, intends to tighten its grip on the towns of Gao, Ménaka and Timbuktu, in northern Mali.
