6 things where PS5 and Xbox are simply better than a gaming PC

Many gamers are considering whether they should buy a gaming PC or a console. But what do PS5 and Xbox do better than a real gaming PC? MeinMMO presents the advantages of consoles.

If you want to play games these days, you have different options: either you play on a gaming PC or a console or you grab your cell phone.

But what are the differences or advantages of a console compared to a gaming PC? MeinMMO lists reasons for a game console. And here it doesn’t matter whether you choose a PS5 or an Xbox.

optimization

Many people criticize that PC games are becoming increasingly poorly optimized. Some games appeared so technically terrible on Steam that many gamers complained loudly about the state of the games. Some players believe that DLSS is the reason for poor optimization.

If you don’t want to wait forever for updates or performance improvements, choose a console. Because in most cases the games run significantly better on the Xbox or PS5. Starfield runs excellently on the Xbox, while players on the PC complain about minor problems.

The consoles have the advantage that the games can be adapted precisely to the console’s built-in hardware. The developers can set up the PS5 in the office and test the game. Testing 20 different PC configurations is almost impossible.

A PS5 or Xbox is cheaper than a gaming PC

The purchase price for game consoles such as the PS5 or Xbox is generally lower than for a gaming PC. You pay around 500 euros for an Xbox Series X or a PS5. You pay a little less for the versions without a drive.

A powerful gaming PC now costs around 1,000 euros and sometimes even significantly more. At least if you want to play current triple-A titles like Starfield or Cyberpunk 2077 with lots of details and in high resolution (WQHD, 4K). For many indie games, however, you don’t necessarily need fast hardware.

At the same time, when gaming on PC, you have to keep in mind that you will have to upgrade the technology at some point, or at least you should. You can only equip a console to a limited extent – at most with a larger SSD.

Consoles rely on exclusive titles

For many years, consoles have relied on exclusive games, so-called “system sellers”: manufacturers hope to convince people to buy a console with special games.

In 2023, the exclusive argument no longer seems to be as strong as it was a few years ago. Because games like the “Horizon” series, which for a long time were only available on the PlayStation, or the “Halo” series on the Xbox are now also available on the PC. Manufacturers like Sony are bringing more and more former exclusive games to the PC.

However, the following still applies: If you absolutely want to play certain, exclusive games right when they are released, then you need the appropriate console. You can only play the new “Spider-Man” game on the PS5. Sony has now explained how long PS5 games will remain exclusive and when they will appear on the PC.

Consoles have a long life cycle

Manufacturers like Sony and Microsoft develop their consoles to last several years. They often work closely with developers so that you can still play current games on your console without any problems even in 4 or 5 years.

And even if a PS6 is officially released at some point, the old generation will continue to be supported for years to come. You can’t equip your PS5 or Xbox Series X with a faster processor or a better graphics card, but that’s usually not necessary.

Perfectly coordinated hardware

Anyone who buys a console gets a perfectly coordinated system. Normally you start your console and can then start playing straight away. You don’t have to worry about drivers, software or other updates. Because the manufacturers have already done that for you.

If you buy a PS5 or an Xbox, you’ll get a finished package right away. If you put together a gaming PC, you can choose from a variety of different components.

  • It plays an important role whether you choose AMD or Nvidia when buying a graphics card.
  • On top of that, both AMD and Intel offer an extensive portfolio of processors that you can install in your system.
  • In addition, many components come from different manufacturers. So you can buy RAM from Corsair and get a motherboard from MSI. But you can just as easily use RAM from Crucial and use an ASUS motherboard.
  • In the best case scenario, everything will run smoothly on your gaming PC; in the worst case scenario, you will have to check the individual components if something has gone wrong.

When it comes to gaming PCs, each device can have different hardware installed. Be it a different processor or a different graphics card. Developers have already explained that optimizing games is almost impossible because there are so many different PC configurations.

    Consoles offer plug and play

Probably the biggest advantage: consoles are easy to use. You connect the device to the power supply, start the console and in most cases you can start straight away. With a gaming PC, in the best case scenario you have to make various settings or your game will crash.

It’s very rare for this to happen on a console that nothing works. But there are also exceptions: Cyberpunk 2077 was considered unplayable when it was released on the PS4 and Xbox One and the last gen (PS4, Xbox One) has to forego some features so that the games remain playable.

When will the end come for the PS4 and Xbox One? For the old generation, the PS4 and the Xbox One, it could end sooner or later. The current consoles are now readily available and available everywhere. And Sony has already shown that it will release fewer and fewer games for the PS4:
