Bad news came to Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny from the Court of Appeal. The appeal of Navalny, who was sentenced to 19 years in prison by the Moscow City Court last August on charges of establishing an extremist organization, financing this organization and organizing protests, was discussed at the Court of Appeals.
The appeal made by Navalny, who attended the hearing online from a prison in the town of Melekhovo in the Vladimir Region, east of Moscow, was rejected and his 19-year prison sentence was approved by the Court of Appeals.
The court also approved the 8-year prison sentence of Daniel Kholodny, who manages one of Navalny’s YouTube channels.
HE WAS POISONED ON THE PLANE
Navalny, who was poisoned on a plane in Russia in 2020 and was arrested on his return to Russia after being sent to Germany for treatment, was accused of organizing protests of dissidents in Russia on August 4, organizing illegal actions through the Anti-Corruption Foundation banned in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison on charges of using remarks against Putin and the Kremlin and financing “extremist” activities.
Navalny, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison and a fine of 1 million 200 thousand rubles on charges of fraud and contempt of court in March last year, was sued for a total of 5 different charges during his detention. (UAV)
