October is just around the corner – a cozy autumn month, but also the most common month to divorce. Savings economist Frida Bratt knows how to protect the economy.
– Make sure it doesn’t become more expensive than you thought, she says.
It is well known that more people separate after spending more time together, for example during the summer holidays.
– When you get more time with each other, things might be put to the test. You start to think: “How are we really doing?”, says Frida Bratt in Nyhetsmorgon.
Don’t stress about the accommodation
High interest rates and inflation make a difficult seat already more difficult. Step one is to sit down and get a handle on your finances.
– The key question is: What is the shared home worth? What you can get for the home enables how the new economy will be in the new home, she says.
A realistic budget must be drawn up, but extra margins, which are adapted to the new cost situation, says Frida Bratt. She does not think that you should rush to find a new home.
– It is easier said than done, you are in a difficult situation and there are a lot of emotions. But it is so important that it does not become more expensive than expected, she says.
Best advice to all: Talk money
If you have decided to divorce, it is important to make a property division agreement as soon as possible. The reason why it is important is that the bank may require it when taking out a loan for a new home.
– Otherwise, the bank doesn’t see what your financial situation actually looks like, if they don’t know what you get from the separation.
Frida Bratt has a tip that EVERYONE can take with them.
– Talk money while the relationship is still working. Money doesn’t have to be a taboo subject. Make financial decisions together, so one does not end up at an information disadvantage. Then I think that you should compensate the person who takes the most responsibility for home and family, says Frida Bratt.
