The fire is believed to have started in an apartment on the fourth floor and the alarm about it came in at 01.30 on the night of Sunday.
Twelve people have been taken to hospital, and the extent of the injuries is unclear, says Roger Sverndal at Greater Stockholm’s fire service, to SVT News Stockholm.
The police have started a preliminary investigation into public dangerous negligence.
– We cannot immediately understand why it has started to burn. But we think it may have happened due to negligence, says Towe Hägg, police spokesperson to TV4 Nyheterna.
The fire was judged to be under control at three o’clock. But a large effort has worked on site, according to Greater Stockholm’s fire service.
According to the emergency services, water pipes in the building have caught fire.
– We have had to turn off the water and heat, says the rescue leader in region Mitt.
Personnel from, among other things, the social services of the City of Stockholm are on site. Those who evacuated the house have gathered at Bredängsskolan nearby, and there may be a question of trying to find temporary housing.
The assessment is that there is no one left in the house who could have been injured.
