In the small town of Almendralejo, located in the southwestern part of the country, more than 20 girls between the ages of 11 and 17 have reported fake nude photos to the police. The pictures have been spread on Whatsapp and Telegram, among others.
The original pictures, in which the girls have been fully clothed, have been taken from the girls’ social media accounts. With the help of an artificial intelligence application, naked bodies have been added to the faces.
the BBC according to the police are investigating the involvement of at least 11 local boys in making the pictures and distributing them. The suspects are 12-14 years old. In addition, there is at least one case under investigation in which the creators of the images are suspected of extorting money from the victim, so that artificial intelligence images made from this would not be distributed.
According to Spanish legislation, the development and distribution of sexual images of children can result in charges of child pornography. Another possible charge could be violation of data protection laws.
In Spain, criminal charges can be brought against persons over the age of 14.
A local artist living in Almendralejo Javier Guerra blames the parents of the boys suspected of the case in an interview with the BBC.
– The parents should have taken away the phones from the boys or installed an application that shows what the children are doing with their mobile phones, he says.
