Tarja Svensson, a Finn living in Stenungsund, tells that the collapse of the busy highway has made local residents uneasy.
In western Sweden, an exceptional landslide occurred at night, where the E6 highway broke in several places near the Stenungsund settlement.
The accident happened in the middle of the night, and the collapse of a busy road during the day was avoided without any casualties. The incident has still shocked the residents of the small municipality.
– Waking up to this news was not fun at all, resident of Stenungsund Joachim Hellström tells Swedish television.
– This shows how vulnerable we are, and how easily things can change. It feels like the whole region has stopped.
So does the resident in Stenungsund Ingemar Sedbring was not surprised to hear about the accident.
– It is not very strange that something like this happens. If you examine the soil more closely, it was even expected, Sedbring states.
Dagens Nyheter – magazine, an industrial area has been built in the collapse area for two years. Now the Swedish police are investigating the impact of the blasts on betraying the country.
According to Sedbring, the area is not necessarily suitable for construction.
– Despite the danger of subsidence, we plan to continue building in the area. Next time it will be the railway’s turn to end up in the sea.
“Nobody knows anything about it at the moment”
The Sortuma area is a familiar place for Finns living near Stenungsund To Tarja Svensson.
– We just returned home from Finland yesterday. Sortuma is located about five kilometers from the exit from which we turned towards our home yesterday.
– The collapse happened in the northern part of Stenungsund. There is a lot of construction work in the area and it is currently suspected that the blasting work has weakened the road.
Svensson heard about the road collapse like many other things from the morning’s local news. According to him, the sudden collapse of a local and heavily trafficked road section has made the local residents uneasy.
– No one knows how long it will take to repair the road. We are talking about months, and nobody knows anything about it at the moment. We are all waiting for the authorities to inform about it.
According to Svensson, the collapse area is closed to traffic and the public for the time being. Damage caused can only be observed with the help of drones intended for filming, which have been flown by news media photographers in the area. His own everyday life has not been affected by the collapse so far.
– The situation came as a complete surprise, and now we are trying to come up with explanations for it. My understanding is that the soil is made up of old seabed that is very saline. The large amounts of rain are believed to have made the ground more slippery.
